Katherine Lagendyk Hill

Hello world, and welcome to the IPS Blog!

I am your web creator, Katherine Lagendyk Hill. I received my BS in Linguistics & Cognitive Studies at Tulane University and am currently pursuing a master’s in clinical mental health counseling, with a focus on military and veteran populations, at The College of William & Mary. I will be posting regularly on topics aimed at improving the outcomes of applied psychology-related research.

Although I have always been passionate about psychology, linguistics, and philosophy, I often struggled to find tangible applications for these interests outside of specialized health services. These fields seemed distant from the broader cognitive sciences they originated from.

My interest in interdisciplinary communication grew during my research into cognitive development in early hominids. I noticed significant issues in how different labs interpreted and replicated each other’s work, often due to miscommunications about the theoretical frameworks used. This highlighted for me the crucial role interdisciplinary studies can play in enhancing research efficacy.

This blog is more than just about improving lab outcomes. To provide evidence-based practices in human services, our approaches must be both empirically and philosophically sound. Our models of biology and cultural competency are based on assumptions that need careful examination to avoid biases and ensure their empirical justification.

IPS Blog is a platform for learning and advocacy. It is designed for anyone interested in breaking down the barriers between disciplines to scrutinize and integrate concepts across fields. Together, we can deepen our understanding of psychological well-being and strengthen clinical practices through coherent, culturally competent science and ethics.

Join me in this journey to bridge gaps and enrich our professional practices. Your thoughts, comments, and questions are not only welcome—they’re essential.
